SOUTHSIDE INTERCEPTOR REPLACEMENT PROJECT The Southside Interceptor will be a 48 inch diameter line, an average of 25 feet deep, and it will transport flow about 3 miles from the intersection of Main Street and Roosevelt Road to the wastewater treatment plant near Shaffner Road and Mack Road. It will replace two interceptors (a 24 inch diameter clay pipe and a 36 inch diameter corrugated metal pipe). Most of the line will be fiberglass pipe. However, one stretch, to be tunneled under Spring Brook Creek, the Illinois Prairie Path, and Plamondon Road will be concrete pipe. The new line will be located mainly in street rights-of-way. Maintenance access will be improved compared to the location of the lines to be replaced which are generally located in remote areas along Spring Brook Creek. Weekly meetings open to the public will be held each Tuesday morning at 7am at the District's main office. Click the link below for the weekly updates on the progress of the project.
