SLUDGE STORAGE After sludge is dewatered, it is transported to our sludge storage building. The sludge storage building is large enough to hold over 2,000 cubic yards of sludge. It would take about six months to generate about 2,000 cubic yards of sludge. We contract with specialized firms that haul the sludge to nearby farm fields for land application.
In this photo, the sludge storage building is nearly empty. It takes about 100 rounds trips of semi trailer dump trucks to move 2,000 cubic yards of sludge to nearby farm fields. If about twelve trucks are used, they can move 2,000 cubic yards of sludge in less than two days, assuming they have a two hour round trip.
Typically sludge is moved out of the sludge storage building two or three times a year. The first haul of the year is typically early in the spring, as soon as farm fields are available. The last haul of the year tends to be in early December for application before the fields are expected to freeze.
